So after I got over my initial panic, and then got over the Dr Google 'research' phase....I then moved onto the semi-productive stage and actually asked SCi Staff how the bleed was being classified and what likelihood they thought there was of miscarriage.
This is the bulk of our response...
"We would like to inform you that your surrogate is doing better than before. Sometime it ( bleed ) happens at this stage.
But just to avoid any risk, she is still under our observation.
As per your query asked in below mail we would like to inform you that this are of bleeding identified is being recognized as a subchorionic bleed.
Please note that she is under our best care & our medical staff take prompt action.
As per our discussion with the obstetrician, we have to wait & see how she is progressing. "
So now I find myself wondering...
What does "better" mean? Less bleeding? Less pain (I didn't know she was ever in any pain)? Is anything better or is this just reassurance?
What does 'observation' mean?
What drugs/medication/treatment is she receiving (if any)?
The cultural and medical differences become apparent at times like this, as well as how little control we have over this pregnancy :(
I trust the staff there entirely, but this situation is frustrating regardless.
I don't know whether to bother them again with my further, incessant, unnecessary and outright 'picky' questions.
My final question - Why can't I have been blessed with the virtue of patience?
Dr Google and I have some issues sometimes.....

Dearest Shakti Rose,
ReplyDeleteI don't think I know many people who wouldn't struggle with their patience in a situation such as yours, so be careful not to beat yourself up for not having patience :)
It seems like it's hard to know whether or not to ask SCI more questions, or whether to leave things as they are and trust that they will give you all the information they have? Although it's clearly upsetting to hear that your surrogate has been in pain, it sounds positive that she is doing better.
Continue to stay strong, and careful with that relationship with Dr Google...
Much love xxx
What have you got to lose if you ask, better still organise a phone call with Dr.Shivani via her office. Although you may still not get all the answers you need (as some may not be answerable at this stage) it may help to have a better understanding.
ReplyDeleteThere are some things we must accept and others we need to raise our voice to and it is a very personal decision on how we classify these things. I think all our questions are valid whether there are answers to them or not, as is the anxiety, it is all a matter of processing.
Hoping for fast resolution.
Health and happiness to you.
I agree with Bear. I would have a quick call with Dr. Shivani to ask whatever questions you have to set your mind at ease. It could be 5 minutes of her day, but stop your worrying for 24 hours a day. Glad to hear that it isn't uncommon and also that she is doing better!
ReplyDeleteI ended up asking my questions via email, and was told that 'better' meant the bleed had reduced. Yippeeeee! They said it's common to have this type of bleeding.
ReplyDeleteWe will now only have 1 week waits between alternating surrogate scans through the remainder of the first trimester as we had a recommended 7 week scan for this surrogate because of the bleed last week,so next is week 9 , whilst our other lovely surrogate is on normal schedule so has week 8 next wednesday 27th June....
Phew! Mixed feelings about a few one week waits coming up - pluses and minuses to that....
Have a nice evening everyone x
So pleased the bleeding has reduced and both surros are doing well, big hug xx
